Twitter turned three years old this weekend and it shows no signs of slowing down. Although many are initially skeptical when learning how the service works, those who try Twitter tend to stay.
Although these are still the early days of the service, Twitter is breaking new ground rapidly: Twitter exposes breaking news faster than newspapers, 24 hour news channels, or mainstream news websites. It's also become an indispensable tool for corporate branding and outreach and community building.
Twitter received quite the birthday present last month: according to Nielsen Online, Twitter has become the fastest growing "member community," surpassing Facebook, Myspace, and other notable communities. With a growth rate of 1,332% it won't be long before Twitter is giving Facebook serious competition.
